Erik Gudbranson & Mike Weaver “Cut For The Cause”

The Florida Panthers Foundation is teaming up with St. Baldrick’s again this season in the fight against pediatric cancer.  Defencemen Erik Gudbranson and Mike Weaver who grew mustache’s in November to raise money for prostate cancer, will shave their heads on Monday February 13th to benefit the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.

The event will be taking place on Monday February 13th at Duffy’s Sports Grill in Plantation at 6:00 P.M.  The event will precede the final Panther’s Live of the year which will follow immediately at 7:00 P.M. This will be the second year in a row that a pair of Panther players will participate in this charity event.

Last season it was Shawn Matthias and at the time, the recently acquired Jack Skille who shaved their heads.  Here’s the video from that event.

Mike Weaver will be promoting the cause on his Defense First facebook page to help spread the word.

For Erik Gudbranson the cause has special meaning as his younger brother Dennis is a cancer survivor beating Acute Myeloid Leukemia after receiving a bone marrow transplant.  It was a difficult situation for the Gudbranson family as Erik shared his thought on the Panther’s website:

"“It’s no fun; you don’t sleep at night. It sucks when you come home and your little brother’s room is empty and you know that he’s at the hospital tied into a bunch of chemicals and what not,” said Gudbranson. “Cancer is tough especially for kids. You see little kids losing their hair and putting body weight on, losing weight and not being able to eat and what not. It’s painful to watch and I couldn’t imagine what it is to go through so it’s a no brainer for me and to help out as much as I can.”"

Erik talks more about why he’s participating in this video.

You too can help support the cause by joining the Panthers team and help raise money.  To join click on this link.

You can also donate to Mike Weaver’s cause, or by donating to Erik Gudbranson’s cause.

"“On the ice, we have our hockey to focus on and everything and off the ice, it’s something that little things count,” said Weaver. “That’s what the Panthers are all about. It’s all about family and it’s all about giving back to the community.”"
