Young The Giant is an American Rock band from Irvine, California led by singer Sameer Gadhia. Their original name when they formed in 2004 was The Jakes. They released an EP called Shake My Hand in 2008, while the band members were either finishing high school or in college. It was shortly after the release of that EP when the band decided to put school on hold and focus on music.
In December of 2009 when they changed their name to Young the Giant. Touring in 2010 they opened for bands such as Minus the Bear, Neon Trees and The Futureheads, the band finished their first album titled Young The Giant in October. Their first single My Body reached number five on the Billboard Alternative song charts, and they later performed that song live on Jimmy Kimmel. Here they are with a live performance at this year’s Austin City Limits Music Festival of another track from the album called Cough Syrup.
As a bonus today, here’s two more tracks, the first one a bluesy rock song called I Got with a short interview at the end, and another live performance on Later With Jools Holland of a song called Apartment.
