Yesterday the Florida Panthers 5-4-0 took on the Buffalo Sabres 6-3-0. The Florida Panthers were looking for redemption after being shutout by the Sabres the last time these two teams played, and the Panthers got it behind an unlikely hero in Jason Garrison.
The first period in Buffalo was a goaltending battle, and after one period it was a tied up at 0-0. In the second period the Florida Panthers struck first with Marcel Goc giving the Panthers a 1-0 lead 6:48 into the frame. Late in the 2nd period Thomas Vanek would tie things up for Buffalo at 18:14. The Sabres would strike first in the 3rd period with Jason Pomminville giving Buffalo a 2-1 lead 12:52 into the 3rd. The Panthers would put on their rally caps though, and soon after the Pomminville goal Tomas Fleischmann would tie things at 2 a piece. Jason Garrison became the unlikely hero for Florida at 18:17 of the 3rd period with a rocket of a slapshot that would give the Panthers the 3-2 lead, and that lead would hold for the Panthers for them to pull out a 3-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres.
The goaltending battle in yesterdays game was Jose Theodore and Ryan Miller of the. Jose Theodore had been out for a couple of games with a lower body injury and Jacob Markstrom had taken his place, and in Jose Theodore return he played a solid game, getting 24 saves for the victory. Ryan Miller had shutout the Panthers the last time these two teams played, and he put up some great numbers in net as well with 34 saves, but it wasn’t enough to hold off the Panther’s late heroics.
Jason Garrison has been quite the surprise this season putting up a total of 4 goals on the season, and coming through in the clutch last night. I look forward to watching Jason play throughout the season, and hope he has more clutch performances in store for us. Tomas Fleischmann has been off to a pretty good start this season, putting up a total of 7 points in 9 games played, putting him on pace for what may be the best season of his career. With the win Florida improves it’s record to 6-4 which matches the Sabres. Florida will take on the Winnipeg Jets 3-6-1 for the first time this season at the Bank Atlantic Center on Monday and I look forward to watching the Jets for the first time this seasonin hopes that the Panthers can get a bit of a streak going.
