Game Recap: Florida Panthers At New York Islanders

The Florida Panthers started the season off right today, with 2-0 win over the New York Islanders with Stephen Weiss and Jason Garrison putting up their first goals of the season.  The Goaltending was also spot on for both teams, even though Al Montoya gave up 2 goals he was still able to get 27 saves which were the same number of saves that Florida Panthers goaltender Jose Theodore had except Jose Theodore did not allow one goal.

Jose Theodore proved me wrong in this game, the last thing I had expected him to do was to post a shutout and I just could not believe my eyes.  After a rather shaky preseason Jose Theodore proved that preseason does not matter and I hope that we can see more of what Jose Theodore showed us in this game cause if he can keep this type of play up all season long, the Florida Panthers are going to be in for a great season no doubt, an over the top performance by Jose Theodore today vs. the New York Islanders!

Going into this game the Florida Panthers had 4 alternates and no team Captain yet, those alternates were Ed Jovanovski, Tomas Kopecky, Stephen Weiss and Brian Campbell so in a way for the next week or so it will be a battle for team captain and today Stephen Weiss came out on top, he showed all elements of a leader in this game along with putting up the Florida panthers first goal of the 2011-2012 season.  In my mind it would be a shock to not see Stephen Weiss as the Florida Panthers team captain.  He has done everything to earn the right to lead this team all season long.

The young Jason Garrison did a great job today on the first line with Veteran defender Brian Campbell and that he was a key part to the Florida Panthers win today.  Garrison did not just play solid D he also put up the Florida Panthers 2nd and final goal of the season opener, I must say I was quite surprised to have seen Garrison put up a goal today, a fine season debut by him, Garrison could not have started the season off any better as he did today in the Florida Panthers season opener!

Today, the Florida Panthers played the best Hockey that they could have and Jose Theodore should be the MVP of this game being that after a rocky preseason people began to wonder if he could be the answer at goaltender but today he proved us wrong with a shutout in his first regular season game as a Florida Panther.  The reward for the Florida Panthers is a 1-0-0 record while the New York Islanders loss puts them at a 0-1-0 record. I am looking forward to the Panthers 2nd game of the season as they take on the Pittsburgh Penguins on Vs!  Should be a great game and if it is just as good as the game we watched today then we will see the Florida Panthers cruise to a 2-0-0 record.
