Last Friday, I conducted a Twitter contest which awarded any Panthers’ fan who would become my 100th follower. The prize being an opportunity to have some thoughts on the upcoming season featured here in an interview format.
First, tell us a little about yourself. Name, Twitter handle?
My name is Jay, I’m originally from Los Angeles, California but have been residing in Miami since 1990. @Project_305
is my Twitter, I talk about hockey a lot so be sure to say what’s up :)
How long have you been a Panthers’ fan?
I was originally a Los Angeles Kings
fan, but it was hard to follow the team after my move to Miami. When South Florida got its own team, I switched allegiances almost immediately. I still love the Kings but the Panthers are #1.
Your favorite Panthers’ moment? Beating Pittsburgh in the Eastern Conference Finals in 1996. A lot of people forget this was the Lemieux/Jagr Penguins, not an easy feat.
Worst Panthers’ moment? Trading Roberto Luongo for next to nothing.
Do you have a favorite player? David Booth.
Which new (for this season) Panther are you excited about the most? Jonathan Huberdeau. The kid is a Jedi with the puck! Plus, he’s an asset on the PP, a problem that plagued us for a while.
What are your thoughts on new head coach Kevin Dineen? I’ve been a fan of Dineen since his days as a Hartford Whaler. I love the leadership and intensity he had in Hartford. Seeing his success as an AHL coach makes me hopeful for his transition to coach an NHL team.
Do you think that Theodore will be in 09-10 form (30-7-7)? or 10-11 form (15-11-3)? Better or worse?
Tough to say. Looking at his stats, his lopsided winning record in DC was because he played in front of a good team, but his goalie numbers are a bit subpar. In Minnesota, the team wasn’t exactly the Caps but he squeaked above 500, which is respectable. In any case, the team has to tighten up defensively so Theo doesn’t face many shots, we have to stop leaving our goalies hanging out to dry. This isn’t Tomas Vokoun in net anymore.
Special thanks to Jay, and all those who participated!
I’ve been tossing around ideas involving another contest for my current followers. If you do not currently follow me on Twitter and would like to have an opportunity to be randomly selected to be featured in a special post, CLICK HERE TO FOLLOW @patrckmclaughln
