Panther Game Day Preview: Who's Star Will Shine?

Check out the FanSided opponent site Blackout Dallas before the game.

Tonight the Florida Panthers visit the Dallas Stars in the final preseason game.  A chance for a number of players to show that an NHL future should start for them now.  Speaking if the future being now, Jacob Markstrom with his solid performance on Tuesday has earned the backup goaltender position.  Tyler Plante was placed on waivers today, and when he clears, he will then head to San Antonio.  Jose Theodore gets the start tonight for Florida in what will be his second preseason game, and I know we are all hoping for a better performance than the one he gave on Saturday night against Tampa.

With Mike Santorelli out for a brief period of time with a shoulder injury the door is now open for someone to take a forward position.  My guess is that Jonathan Huberdeau has the lead in that contest with his skill and play.  One big factor in the way is that he must be signed to a contract first.  Also looking to solidify spots are Ryan Carter, Shawn Matthias, Evgeny Dadonv and Tim Kennedy.  I am confident that Erik Gudbranson has done what needs to be done to be on the roster, and unless his performance tonight resembles Mathieu Baron, he’ll be here.

It will be interesting to see if there’s any continuation of bad blood between these two teams that carries over from Tuesday night. The Panthers took a 1-0 lead into the second period and when Jacob Markstrom completed his first half duty, Tyler Plante came in and things took a very ugly turn.  Plante surrendered a goal on his first shot against, and two goals in less than two minutes, and Dallas was on it’s way to what looked like a romp.  A penatly filled second half of the game contributed to the angst between the two teams, especially when Tim Kennedy was hit by Ryan Garbutt.  Coming to his rescue were Shawn Matthias and Erik Gudbranson.  Big G ended up with a penatly and a game misconduct, but good for him as it’s nice to see the young guys stick up for their teammates.

Steeger also got into the action as he dropped the gloves with Alex Goligoski, much to the delight of the home crowd.  That fight seemed to ignite the Panthers as they came back to tie the game at three and sending it to overtime.  Unfortunately Dallas ended up with the win, and the Panthers lost their third consecutive home game.

Sitting out:  Stephen Weiss, Sean Bergenheim, Tomas Kopecky, Jason Garrison and Brian Campbell.

More roster trimming will be coming on Friday as the Panthers will then have one solid week to work on their chemistry assignment.

The game starts at 8:30 with no T.V. or radio on this end.
