Breaking news out of Sunrise today as goaltender Scott Clemmensen has undergone a minor knee procedure today at Doctors Hospital in Miami. It’s expected that Clemmensen could miss the first few games of the season or longer while he recovers. As George Richards from the Miami Herald reports here, we shouldn’t be surprised to see Tyler Plante as the backup for Jose Theodore rather than Jacob Markstrom. George goes on to say that should Clemmer be out for an extended period of time, then the Panthers may consider looking for an experienced backup. Manny Legace quickly comes to mind as he’s been released from his tryout with the Vancouver Canucks, but I’m not endorsing nor admitting that I know that he’s even under consideration.
Here’s the official announcement from the Florida Panthers:
SUNRISE, FL – Florida Panthers Executive Vice President & General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that G Scott Clemmensen underwent a minor knee procedure on Monday at Doctors Hospital in Miami. He will be re-evaluated upon completion of the surgery and a full recovery is expected.
In either case we are confident that Jose Theodore who was signed as a free agent this summer will be able to handle the load as the Florida Panthers main goaltender.
On Sunday we started doing our division previews, and on Monday October 3rd we will have our Florida Panther Season Prediction!
