How Ya Like Me Now?

Things are changing here in South Florida in more ways than one.  In two quick summers the Florida Panthers and general manager Dale Tallon have revamped the roster faster than a Pavel Bure wrist shot screaming past an opposing goaltender.  With 11 new players this year, plus the potential of young defenceman Erik Gudbranson making the team, the Cats are geared up for a big season.  A season where playoffs are finally a real possibility.

Additionally there’s a new slogan for the year (We See Red), and special fan section with no visitors allowed (The Red Zone), and just this week a new campaign that wants you to join the REDvolution.  As part of the REDvolution campaign, the organization will be giving fans an opportunity to interact with each other, win prizes, announce goals and more.  The biggest feature that I’m excited about is the chance for a new goal song.  FINALLY!

More after the jump.

Each Panther fan who registers at the team site will get a chance to nominate three songs for consideration. I’ve read in various parts of the blogosphere a number of songs that fans have suggested, and while many of them are solid contenders, there’s been numerous suggestions for one song that just can’t be.  I’ve seen more than once that the goal song for the Chicago Blackhawks, Chelsea Dagger should be the goal song for the Florida Panthers.

No way!  Absolutely not!

That would be stealing, unimaginative, and most of all being a copycat.  Sure Chelsea Dagger is a great goal song, but let’s be honest here…. it belongs to the Hawks….. and it should stay that way.  Plus, if it became our song, what would you play if we score on the Hawks?  What will they play when the score on us?  Again, to suggest it is just absurd.

I’ve had a song in my head for quite some time that I think makes perfect sense.  It’s upbeat, it’s catchy, and it makes you wanna stand up, clap your hands, dance, and get loud.  I’ve listened to it more than a few times, and in addition to the soulful beat, it is a perfect thing to say after scoring a goal.  My first choice for the goal song for the Florida Panthers is called “How Ya Like Me Now” by The Heavy.  Take a listen yourself.  Imagine a goal being scored and then play it.  The portion with about a minute left or thereabouts is what should be played.

What do you think?  The boys here are the Rat Trick are working a contest as well to coordinate with the Florida Panthers, so stay tuned for that announcement real quick!
