Last month’s Fan Fun explored what the Panther’s offensive lines might look like. This month’s edition tackles the defense.
Here is what I would like to see:
Ellerby rotating to give someone a rest.

I’m not a hundred percent on Gudbranson joining the team this year, but I think Ed Jovanovski would make a great mentor for him. Jovanovski is a left handed shot while Gudbranson has a right handed shot. The Panthers could employ this on the powerplay to blast shots from the point.
Kulikov and Ellerby made for an interesting pairing last year. Harvey Fialkov of the Sun Sentinel wrote this about them back in February. This would still make for a good pairing, but with all of the defensive acquisitions in the offseason, someone has to be the odd man out. Ellerby can still make a difference coming off the bench or filling in for an injury. As for Kulikov and Campbell, both having left handed shots doesn’t disqualify them from working well together. They would be well balanced. Kulikov could add some offensive flair, possibly even taking some more risks jumping up into the play, now that Campbell can back him up.
A highly disciplined pairing has been Mike Weaver and Jason Garrison. They rarely stray from the game plan or get called for avoidable penalties. Fox Sports Florida had a defensive special of “Inside the Panthers” featuring these two. A short snip-it of that program featuring Weaver, Garrison, Randy Moller and Bryan Allen can be found here. I’m more confident picking this pairing than any of the others. If this isn’t a pairing next season, one of them didn’t have a great training camp.
