Today’s music choice on New Releases Thursday is If Not Now When by Incubus.

It seems not a day passes by lately without reading more than three or four articles about the Florida Panthers and the recent transformation that Dale Tallon is architecting.  With a second very successful draft in a row the future of the Panthers is looking about as bright if not brighter than any other NHL club right now.  In addition, with having to spend in free agency to acquire players that not only improve the team, but will change the culture of the club,  the Panthers have created a stir.  Previous summers combined haven’t made this much noise with the exception of the 2005 season which came after the lockout.

While many pundits continue to crucify blast Dale and the organEYEzation for their signings, I ask “if not now, when?  Going for a guy like Brad Richards may have been the popular thing to do, but in reality to pay one player between $7-8 million dollars per year for 9 seasons handcuffs an organization like this one.  In addition to that, Dale isn’t here to win a popularity contest….he’s here to win hockey games. Many of the youngsters aren’t ready yet, and the Panthers are not rushing anyone just so that they can prove that they know how to draft.  For a change however the city of Sunrise is excited.  Season ticket sales are going up, and fans can’t wait for the season to start.  Yes, there’s work to be done and many questions to answer.  But I’d rather be answering the questions with these players we have today, than any group we’ve had in at least the past four seasons.  Your links after the jump.
