At Least Some People In Vancouver Were Focused. Source: Rich Lam/Getty Images

Daily Pucking Grind. A Tale Of Two Cities. June 17th

Today’s music choice I go back to 1982 and a song by the PretendersMy City Was Gone.

By looking at the above photo you almost have to wonder what the focus was on.  The rioting and crazyness in the background, or the two love birds determined to expressing their affection for each other.  The news throughout the day seemed to focus so much on the vandalism of the city of Vancouver, and how they have ruined the reputation of Canada etc.  It’s not really news, as Canadians have set fires to cars after playoff loses in the past.  Maybe it was just the extent of the damage that was incurred by what is a really beautiful city.  I have to say that I love the city Vancouver…been there a few times and if you haven’t, you need to get there yourself.  But I have grown to despise their hockey club.

The reverse of this is the celebration in Boston with a parade coming on Saturday.  Also the feel good story of Tim Thomas.  The 37 year old goaltender who literally defied the critics.  Thought to be too old, washed up and on his way out, Timmy outplayed his counterpart Roberto Luongo and showed the entire hockey world what hard work, determination and an honest good natured man he is.  There is no way you can’t be proud of his accomplishments this season.  Here’s hoping that Thomas wins the Vezina Trophy as the NHL’s best goaltender for this past season.  He was!
