Improvements To The Bank Atlantic Center? I Have Some Suggestions!

If you’ve been following SSE (the group that owns the Florida Panthers and the Bank Atlantic Center) COO & President Michael Yormark, you know he’s been promising a string of announcements this week, although we’re not betting that any of them involve a new coach. Today, SSE announced they’ve retained 360 Architecture to make some renovations to the Cats home rink.

Among the announced changes are suite-level opera boxes (presumably, hopefully for concerts only), an inner bowl bar and digital signage. And while that’s all well and good, some base level improvements could be more in order. Here is what i would suggest:

– First and foremost, how about some new video boards. I don’t want to say the current video boards are small but I had a Trinitron in my college apartment that was bigger (rim shot). Trying to watch a close play from your seat is like being an 80 year-old woman squinting at a tv to check lottery numbers. The scoreboard was nice for when the arena opened in the late 90’s but the technology has grown by leaps and bounds since. And yes, it’s easy for me to say when I’m not the guy writing the checks, but time to catch up to the technology.

– This tip won’t cost the team a thing: Let me pick the in game music. If you don’t follow me on Twitter (and shame on you if you don’t), let me tell you my musical taste is awesome. And if you don’t buy that, let me just assure you I would NEVER allow Party In The USA to be played during a hockey game. NEVER! I would rule the music booth with this simple philosophy: Less Miley, More Motorhead!

– We want Molson! Molson Canadian is the official beer of the NHL. Please make it available at the BAC. We’ll buy it. I’d buy more were I not a diabetic, but I’ll still buy some.

– The Den of Honor. Don’t change a thing unless it’s to make it bigger. The team hit a giant home run with something that didn’t sound like a great idea at first.

So while the new changes sound fine, the Panthers can begin with suggestions above. If they want to grant one, let me play the music! I’m serious, I have 2000 CDs and a lot of spare time!
