Review

Darcy Hordichuk seemed like an odd pickup when he returned to the Florida Panthers prior to the start of the season. Head Coach Pete DeBoer never seemed to have much use for enforcer types. But, the spin was that Hordy was more than just a couple of sets of knuckles and he would see more ice time on the Panthers fourth line. That usually was not the reality. He did find his way into the lineup for 64 games but many of those came after the trading deadline when the Panthers were shorthanded or injured. Many of the games prior to that, he was on the bench after the first period while someone (usually David Booth) double shifted over the final two periods.

You can check out all of his fights from this past season at hockeyfights.com. He held his own in most of his bouts but, by no means, was he dominant.

Final Grade: Incomplete It’s hard to grade a guy whose night was usually over after a couple of shifts. On nights where he was allowed to break a sweat, he did add some physicality and toughness but DeBoer didn’t seem to have him on his radar most of the time. He was dead last on the team in time on ice and shifts a game. Hard to see Hordy’s future with no coach in place but, I’d be surprised if he’s back next year, as the Cats have a few young players in the system who would be able to fit the same role.
