Review:  Of all the players that have come and gone through the Florida Panthers organEYEzation recently, you’d have to be pleased with the progress that Jason Garrison has made.  Signed originally as a free agent in 2008, spending most of his time with Rochester in 2009-2010, Garrison did appear in 39 NHL games that season.  He showed glimpses of what his future would be, but unfortunately with all the back and forth to Rochester, may not have played as steadily as anticipated.  He did play well enough at the end of 2010 to earn himself a two year deal giving him the confidence that he needed. Knowing that he had a one way deal, and that the Panthers had enough confidence in him Garrison came into training camp ready, stronger and determined.  At 6′ 2″ and 220 lbs, Garrison is a good sized defenceman that is quick when needed, physical when he has to be, and for the most part, mistake free.  You won’t really notice him as he’s one of those guys that does the little things, and rarely makes a mistake.  Playing with veteran Mike Weaver, Garrison learned the ropes from a player who complimented him very well.  He won’t put up a lot of points, but he has the potential to surprise you, scoring overtime goals against Buffalo and Atlanta, Garrison just might build on that for this coming season.  He’ll be in the final year of his contract and he’ll be 27 years old in November.  He’s basically heading into his prime.  A good start, another solid year and he just might hit the jackpot.  I think that Garrison can be a solid top 3 or 4 defenceman for a long time here.

Grade: B +
