The Florida Panthers caused quite a stir yesterday with the announcement of the firing of Head Coach Peter DeBoer, not more than 12 hours after winning their final game of the season. A shutout victory over the Washington Capitals with goaltender Tomas Vokoun getting the victory in what might have been his last game as a Panther as well. Speculation is running rampant on who is on General Manager Dale Tallon’s list of candidates to take the position.
Will it be someone like assistant coach Gord Murphy was has come in this season and retooled the defense and guided the Panthers to one of the top penalty killing units in the league? Will it be a coach with no NHL experience such as Kevin Dineen, a name that I saw floating around Sunday as a possible candidate? Or will it be someone with more experience like Ken Hitchcock or Michel Therrien? Let me fess up and say, I personally have no idea, but have some thoughts that you’ll see soon enough.
