Cats End Preds 6 Game Streak With A Dramatic Win!

The Panthers headed into tonight’s game with a one game home streak and a record of 19-20-2 in 41 games this season. The Predators were 7-2-3-0 against the Panthers in the last decade and won their last two games against the Cats.

The Panthers decided to go with Scott Clemmensen tonight in favor of Tomas Vokoun with management feeling that Clemmer has been the better goaltender in the last few games. All of this comes while Vokoun is in the final year of his current contract and is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer with the Panthers apparently trying to resign him for at least another season.

“We’ve had ongoing discussions with Florida about a potential extension,” Vokoun’s agent, Michael Deutsch told the Sun Sentinel. “Conversations are continuing, and we’ll see where they go.”

It was a bit of a sleeper in Sunrise as the BankAtlantic Center drew a sparse crowd of 12,228 from the blizzard like cold of 54 degrees. The Panthers came into an early lead with a goal from Dvorak but the Boys from Nashville soon tied it up with a goal from Colin Wilson….The Cats struggled though a second period full of powerplays to hold the tie and then came roaring back in the third period, Rostislav Olesz and David Booth scored 2:14 apart to give Florida a 3-2 victory.

After the game Panthers head coach Pete DeBoer said ‘It’s been a while since we’ve had a comeback win like that. It’s nice. I think it builds confidence.”

Clemmensen said “It’s a big character win for us, especially after having given the lead there in the third,…the guys responded to get the equalizing goal and then go ahead goal… this is the type of game that hopefully you can build on.”

I think the reaction from Stu Siegel, part owner of the Panthers, on Twitter sums it up  “Yes! Panthers get a solid grind-it-out win against a tough Nashville team!”
