Being in south Florida the Panthers organization doesn’t necessarily have the corner on the market for media coverage. It’s hard to be a major headline in an area that has The Big Three of Lebron, Wade and Bosh and a Miami Dolphins team that beat the Jets last night. Even so it’s hard when the media not only gives no coverage but give’s false coverage! This coming from NBC…
“…every so often we see someone behind the camera let their tongue slip and slide a profane invective onto the poor, innocent ears of our airwaves. Florida Panthers’ TV guy Craig Laughlin clearly did not think much of the goal put in by Mike Santorelli against the Washington Capitals, using a certain fecal-related adjective to describe the score.” (NBC Sports)
The second I read this story I was immediately surprised because I thought that it was the Washington commentator who had “slipped” a little bit on-air.
It is Washington Capitals commentator Craig Laughlin not a Florida Panthers commentator. It’s pretty sad when NBC get something major like that wrong in their headline. It makes it sound like our amazing media guys Steve Goldstein, Bill Lindsey or Randy Moller slipped up and that’s simply not true. I mean it’s not like NBC hasn’t messed up before (IE Conon) but this could have been resolved with a simple fact check!
The word you heard here though was “Shinny” which is used to describe plays that you might call “playground-style” in a basketball game. Shinny,” though, also sounds like another word, especially with a Canadian accent, is not a swear word. So really the entire article is junk…which guess just goes to show you how media is changing because of the internet!
