The Florida Panthers had a chance to make a big statement last night coming into town against the high flying Philadelphia Flyers. Unfortunately the only statement that was made was, they aren’t good enough. I’m not going to jump on the “excuse” bandwagon and tell you that we should feel sorry for them since their plane landed at 2:30 A.M. Saturday morning. That they played their third game in four nights, and second in two nights, and that they were obviously tired and felt deflated as Philly struck twice midway into the first period to take a quick 2-0 lead. Reality is, Florida isn’t in the same league as Philly. So if you went into last night’s game thinking that the Panther’s had a chance, you were only fooling yourself.
I will make this one comment though. I was extremely surprised that Scott Clemmensen did not start at home Friday against the Minnesota Wild in a non-conference game, as coach Peter DeBoer started Tomas Vokoun instead. Giving Clem the nod Saturday night. I think that was a big mistake.
Here’s the TSN boxscore. The Little Stevie point projection jumped to 40 as he had one assist in last night’s contest. However, he had no shots on goal. Darcy Hordichuk was on the ice for 11 minutes and was stopped early by Flyers goaltender Sergei Bobrovski.
After 12 minutes, the Panthers were pretty much done last night. Harvey Fialkov. Matter of fact, after about 22 minutes in, so was I.
David Neal also says that the Panthers fell apart last night after 12 minutes. Little Stevie says, “we just kinda stood around”. Once again proving that the A on his sweater stands for Ass Hat!
In case you missed it Steve Bernier underwent surgery on his orbital bone Saturday after the stick to his face by Minnesota Wild defenceman Brent Burns. Burns received a two game suspension for his lack of respect. Sun Sentinel.
