Panthers Overwhelmed in Philly

It was a tall order for the Florida Panthers to go into Philadelphia to face the league’s hottest team in the Flyers and come out with a win. As a fan, you’d just hope they kept it close. They didn’t. The Flyers withstood an early charge by the Cats and then barraged the Florida net to build a 5-0 lead midway through the second.

Mike Richards and Claude Giroux each added a pair of goals Flyers. Florida managed a pair of goals after the game was decided from Cory Stillman (deflected from a Keaton Ellerby slapper) and Mike Santorelli.

Not a real surprise here, folks. The Flyers are a supremely talented team and the Panthers are not. Even the Cats PK unit, which has been so strong, yeilded a couple of goals. You would have like to see the Panthers capitalize early on, but it was not to be. It doesn’t help that the Flyers have been playing lights out for a couple of weeks now.

The Panthers have a few days to lick their wounds before they head to Atlanta to play the Thrashers on Wednesday to play in arena that is even more empty than their own.
