Listening to The Fan 590 last night, the panel which included Bob McKown and Nick Kypreos, it doesn’t seem as though a coaching change would make things any different. The roster that Burke has put together just isn’t good enough and Wilson can only work with what he has. And when you boil it down he doesn’t ahve too much. Sound familiar?
While the leafs have talented forward Phil Kessel, puck moving defenceman Tomas Kaberle , and goaltender J.S. Giguere, the rest of the team is just plodding away trying to find an identity and some consistency. Again, sound familiar? When you look at their roster and find that Clarke MacArthur is their leading scorer you have to wonder if your eyes are playing tricks on you. In addition Kris Versteeg who came over in a trade from Chicago has struggled with only two goals and three assists for five points in 13 games. Newly anointed captain Dion Phaneuf is out for awhile with a deep leg laceration, and his physicality is certainly missing.
Speaking of physicality, Colton Orr and his interference drama will be here as well, so you can all rehash that incident some more. Regardless of the NHL’s admitted mistake, and our own GM Dale Tallon’s hope for a coaches review, it’s not going to happen. Move on.
The Leafs power play will fit right into the panthers penalty kill system as the Leafs are 3 for 35 over the last nine games including 0 for 5 last night against the Lightning. but you know we’ve seen this before. A team plays on the road the night prior to a game, loses and or is on a losing streak, comes into the “Bank” and runs all over the Panthers who have been off for a couple days.
Florida most likely will have Tomas Vokoun back in goal after a game and a half rest from this past weekend. The Panthers split their home and home matchup with the Carolina Hurricanes, winning 7-4 at home on Friday, and forgetting to show up until late in the third period on Saturday, losing 3-2. It wasn’t that close from what I read.
Will be interesting to see the lines for Florida tonight. Cory Stillman remains out of the lineup, and Shawn Matthias was practicing on the wing yesterday with Little Stevie and Michael Frolik as Pete The Bore tries to find the right mix for that impersonating top line.
Here’s the Gameday Link for tonight from TSN.
FanSided lead writer Sue Lee from Ducks Daily Blog is in town this week for the game, and is gonna go to a wedding while she’s here. Looking forward to showing Sue how the Sunshine State does hockey.
Thanks for reading.
