A quick post as I wanted to make sure you caught the latest report from the GM Journal that’s posted on the Florida Panthers website, as Dale Tallon gives us some insight on what’s been happening during the pat month, and what’s coming up over the next month.
Dale talks about the recent acquisitions, some comments regarding head coach Peter DeBoer, what’s coming up, as well as his recent participation in the Senior Open.
Most of us probably feel that while he’s busy, we would like him to be busier. Or maybe more active is the right way to say it. I’d bet that he’s been doing as much as he possibly can, and that his cell phone minutes have reached outrageous totals. (Dale I have some rollover minutes you can use). However it all boils down to being smart and being certain that the money you want to spend is worth the value that will be coming back. That is always an unknown especially with free agency.
The fab four players acquired last week may or may not make the roster even at the minor league level. What Dale has done is created competition, which is healthy, as well as needed. I would concur however that, I prefer to have had the money spent on a proven player. I’m not going to beat argument that like a deadhorse, but I realize that these things take time. It’s not easy to clean a roster containing players that are overpaid, non-productive, and most importantly not wanted.
You all know the names of the individuals that need a new dressing room in another city. Thanks to former coach/GM Uncle Jack, it’s not that easy. We have shed some of the deadwood, or overpaid bodies by trading Nathan Horton and Keith Ballard. There are a few more in my mind that need to go, and I’m confident that at some point it will happen.
The question is when, and for what. If you’re looking to trade Rusty Olesz and his unworthy contract, that means we probably have to take one back. If we want to trade Little Stevie, what kind of player comes back. (if it were up to me I’d settle for a case of Molson). The Panthers have taken alot of chances over the years with most of them not working out. Caution and patience are the key words here.
The biggest question as fans is, how much of each do you (we) have?
One last quick addition. Zach Hyman a 5th round pick of the Florida Panthers caught the attention of Matt Reitz at A View From My Seats. A great article that you have to see.
