I want to welcome aboard a new member of the Rat Trick staff, Jeff Christnagel. Jeff will be posting his views and musings about our South Florida Hockey team here, as he joins me, and Caity Kauffman (who covers the Florida Everblades) on the site.
You might say I’m adding staff faster then the Florida Panthers are adding players! The object is to produce more material, from different viewpoints, and have a significanlty higher visibility. Do I want this to be the number one Florida Panthers blogging site? Absolutely. It’s gonna take time, and after about 10 months, I feel that I have a pretty good following, and it can only get stronger. I mean how hard can it be to go from three viewers to four right?
Adding more writers is one way to do it. There will be some more additions to the site, as well as other ways to follow us. Stay tuned!
Now, a little about Jeff:
Born and raised within site of Ford Rouge Plant in Melvindale (Detroit) Michigan. I grew up 3 houses from John Kessey arena and had a key to the rink. I skated many hours alone but surrounded by history. Kessey Arena in Melvindale when I grew up had some of the best ice in Michigan, and held host to many Detroit Red Wing practices, tournaments, ISIA Skating Compatitions as well host to the Little Ceaser hockey club. My family married into the arena, the life.
Growing up with a granfather from Montreal with 7 boys living in the Detroit area I never got the chance to watch anything but CBC and Montreal games. Yes they did achieve when I was younger but it gave me a sense of pride for the jersey not just the player.
After high school I joined the United States Air Force where I was sent to England in support of Operation Desert Storm as a Security Force member of the 48th Tactical Fighter Wing, RAF Lakenheath UK. I served in the Air Force until 1993 amd found my way back to the Motor City.
“Canadiens win the CUP”was a TOP HEADLINE when I returned from Europe in 1993 and pride was strong in my heart. As I worked in many Plastic Injection Mold Shops as a mold maker I got razzed, teased everyday for my Habs hats or shirts. I stood my ground, watched them win, saw their joys, walked in their parades. At least my Dad (Wing Fan) was happy.
2006 I moved my wife and 5 children to Hollywood Florida to escape to pressures of Detroit. Continuing to rally the Montreal Canadiens and went all out in 2007 when I started twittering and facebooking for a sports show in Montreal. I became the number 1 fan of the show and gathered some amazing friends.
I since have decided to rally what I consider for the first time in my entire life MY HOME TEAM, The Florida Panthers. I am a Miami resident and will be for a long time to come. History starts now!
Jeff’s first post will be up shortly, and I know you’ll enjoy reading his insights to our team and the NHL.
Thanks for reading.
