Another shot to the groin. Thanks!

Fan Appreciation Night: Lightning vs. Panthers

So this is how you thank me?  By missing the playoffs again?  Year after god damn year it’s been the same story.  Am I going to the game tonight?  Yes.  Why?  I love hockey.  I’m passionate about it.  But you know what kitty cats?  I hate to lose, and I hate it even more when we continue to miss the playoffs.

Tonight’s game is the last regular season game and it’s fan appreciation night at the Bank Atlantic Center.  How will you show appreciation for people like me, your fans?  Sure, I have bitched and moaned, although I’d prefer to call it “I told you so”, all season.  I haven’t had much to be appreciative about.  But since we’re on the subject, here’s what I would appreciate.

I’d appreciate at least winning tonight’s game.  Let’s go out on top!  Oh, wait, that hurts our chances of getting one of the top draft picks.  Screw it.  Lose.

I’d therefore appreciate drafting Taylor Hall or Tyler Seguin.

I’d appreciate it if you would draft all forwards.  No defencemen please.

Speaking of defencemen, I’d appreciate if you could find a way to get a couple defencemen that shoot righthanded.  Since all of ours are lefthanded.

I’d appreciate it if you could put a better product on the ice next year.  Make your moves wisely.  But please make them.

I’d appreciate it if you would please, please, please get a goal scorer.

I’d appreciate it if someway, somehow, you could find it in your hearts to get my daughter a game used stick from tonights game.  A sweater would be great as well, but a stick will do.

I’d appreciate it if we changed the music for next year.  I am so tired of the same head banging garbage that’s played.  Don’t get me wrong, I love rock and roll, but there is so much good music out there, you’re guy controlling the CD player needs to update his library.

As for tonight’s game which is the last of the season, we can only hope to be treated to a well played affair.  Regardless of the outcome, neither team is going to be happy about their season.  Missing the playoffs is no fun and missing them for as long as the Florida Panthers have been is actually depressing.

Steven Stamkos scored goals 49 and 50 last night and has capped off a great year.  Nathan Horton had a decent game, but was stymied on two glorious chances in overtime.  The teams traded scoring chances in the extra period, but it would comedown to a shootout to decide the winner.

On a very nifty move after which Panther goaltender Scott Clemmensen tried to pokecheck the puck away, Steven Stamkos scored the game winner.  Hell of a night for the second year forward.  He has an extremely bright future in Tampa.

Not really sure what else to say about this last game.  It’s going to be a long summer and there’s a ton of work to do for both Florida teams.  Each has their own set of problems, yet the Lightning have some promise with what they currently have.  The Panthers meanwhile need to do some serious evaluating.

Wrap up of the game on Monday and wrap up of the season during the week.

On a really serious note, and since it is Fan Appreciation Night, that despite it all and all of my “ranting”, I do appreciate the fact that I am able to go see hockey on a regular basis in the town I live in.

Thanks for reading.
