Some tidbits of info that I thought you’d like to know about while I make some punch for a Panthers end of year party.
First, in case you missed it last night, here’s our friends Litter Box Cats with the story of the ongoing on ice fued between Panther defenceman Keith Ballard and Goaltender Tomas Vokoun. Well, it’s not really a fued, more like a couple of misshaps. Anyhow, since the server at my office blocks this stuff, I give all credit to Donnie at Litter Box Cats for covering this one.
As much as I have always liked the Calgary Flames, I have to say that it gives me great satisfaction in stating here on this blog that the Calgary Flames and overpaid and overrated defenceman Jay Bouwmeester will NOT be participating in this year’s post season. How do ya like that Mr. Bouwmeester?
On the other hand, it gives me great pleasure to state that the Chicago Blackhawks set a single season team record last night with their 50th win of the year. What a terrific season, and what a way to bring yourself back from the scrap heap of the NHL! Panthers, take note of how it was done. Draft, free agency, trades. Alittle bit of everything, but in most cases it was a skilled scouting staff both at the pro level and the minor level. Who knew that Patrick Sharp would become the player he has? That trade was a steal.
Kudo’s to the Colorado Avalanche for clinching a playoff spot last night. Matt Duchene, Chris Stewart, Craig Anderson and all the rest have had done a great job getting the “Lanche” back in the playoffs.
Dave Tippett has taken the Phoenix Coyotes and made them a legitimate playoff team. How far they go remains to be seen, but if nothing else, it’s another example of a coach and his system being followed by his players. Have to say he gets the Jack Adams Award for Coach of The Year, hands down.
Speaking of awards the Masterton Trophy is awarded every year to the the NHL player that best exemplifies the qualities of perserverance, sportsmanship and dedication to the game. Mark Recchi is as good a candidate that I can think of.
What if they did the opposite of the Masterton Trophy and called it the Ass Wipe of the year. For the player that best exemplifies lack of respect, poor judgement, and a complete and overall lack of hockey sense? I’d most likely give to to Matt Cooke.
I heard yesterday on Hockey Central a noon radio show on the Fan590 in Toronto while driving in my car, remarks that were made by Roberto Luongo about the upcoming final games of the season. John Garrett, a former goalie himself who works for Sportsnet said that when Louie was asked how he and the team would handle the remaining games on the calender, Louie responded with something along the lines of, like preseason games. What? Is he f-in insane? There’s home ice advantage on the line, there’s maintaining the winning pace on the line. What the fuck is this guy thinking? I guess all his years here in Florida and the lack of pressure have warped his thinking. Well, I’m not surprised. When Vancouver falters in the playoffs, and they will, all fingers can be pointed directly in his direction! I’m also sending Luongo the bill from my Body Shop after driving my car into the window of “Lester’s Diner” when I heard that.
One last thing. Congrats to Marty Brodeur for victory number 600 and shutout number 110! Now that’s a goaltender!
Thanks for reading.
