Need I Say More?

Panther Gameday Wrap Up and Preview: Cats vs. Bruins. So What!

As the above image states, there’s not much left to say.  The Florida Panthers went into Buffalo last night and pretty much tanked.  Ryan Miller made a whopping 13 saves as the Panthers lost to the Sabres by a score of 6-2.  The Sabres got scoring from everywhere including the fourth line as players like Adam Mair, Tyler Ennis and Nathan Gerbe contributed to the win.

The Panther’s goals came from Michael Frolik and Jeff Taffe who was called up from Rochester to replace the injured Rostislav Olesz who was out with a hand injury.  The loss all but eliminates Florida from the post season as they now have lost their last four games and play in Boston tonight.

The Panthers played the game as though they couldn’t give a crap and based on what I saw during the first and part of the second periods, neither did I.  So I switched games and watched a real hockey team break out of a slump as the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Minnesota Wild 4-0.

As for tonight the Panthers take on a Boston team that has had to take their playoff destiny in their own hands and so far has been up to the task.  The Bruins are in a three way tie with Montreal and Philadelphia with 82 points and have a two point lead on ninth place Atlanta.  The Bruins who beat New Jersey on Tuesday 1-0 for their fourth victory in six games seems to be pointing themselves in the right direction after a bit of a slump after the Olympic break.  Losing center Marc Savard to an injury caused by a hit from that asshole Matt Cooke hasn’t helped, but players are stepping up.

Tuukka Rask has semmingly taken over the goaltending job from last year’s Vezina Trophy winner Tim Thomas, is 9-4-0 since Feb.7th and has a 1.88 GAA and three sutouts in that span.  Leading the team in goals is Marco Sturm with 21 and Patrice Bergeron leads in points with 50.

The Panthers meanwhile are doing their normal disappearing act and are headed the opposite way.  Many people in Florida are hoping for a horrendous finish to the season in hopes to be able to draft in one of the top 3 spots come June.  The thinking is that Florida can pick a player that will help energize the broken down franchise.  That remains to be seen, but you won’t get me on that bandwagon.  I’m not for tanking, nor am I pinning my hopes on Taylor Hall or Tyler Seguin, although it would be great to have one of them, there’s more trouble’s here.

During this four game losing streak the Panthers have scored seven goals and are 1 for 13 on their PP (piss poor).  The enthusiasm that the Panthers lacked last night can be verified by the fact that they were outshot 41-15 against the Sabres.

Poor performance, lackluster effort, and no heart.  The last few weeks have been charachter time boys, and guess what?  You haven’t shown it.

And that is no April Fool’s joke!
