If you want a preview of today’s game here it is:
Florida 30-33-12 at Buffalo 42-23-10. Game time 7:00 P.M.
I have something more important that I want to say.
Former NHL coach Pat Burns, one of the classiest and most respected coaches in hockey is battling cancer for the third time in his life. Diagnosed with colon cancer in 2003-2004 and liver cancer in 2005 Mr. Burns took the chemotherapy route for treatment. With his latest diagnosis of lung cancer he has decided against treatment. His prognosis is not good.
Warren Weeks a resident of Oakville, Ontario and his friends John Perenack and Mark Fieldhouse who have no connection to Burns other than being Canadiens and Leafs fans, decided to set up a website and facebook page to encourage fans to join and help fast-track Burns into the Hall. The idea which I am fully supportive of, is to get Pat Burns into the builder section of the Hall which does not require the three year wait that players are subject to.
Pat Burns coached for 14 seasons in the NHL and complied a 501-350-161-14 record while coaching the Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins and New Jersey Devils. He took the Devils to the Stanley Cup Finals and won in 2003. He won the Jack Adams Award (given to the best coach) three times in his career. Once with Montreal, then Toronto and finally Boston. He is the only coach to ever have won it in his first year behind an NHL bench, as well as the only coach to win it with three different teams. He retired from coaching due to his bouts with cancer and is a special assistant to the New Jersey Devils at this time.
Burns who was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on April 4, 1952 was a former policeman in the city of Gatineau, Quebec. He is having an arena built in his honor at Stanstead College in Quebec that is slated to be completed in 2011.
The ultimate achievement in the NHL is getting into the Hall Of Fame. No one deserves it more than Pat does and not because of his illnesses. Because of his accomplishments in the game and the respect that he gets and class that he portrays, even throughout his bouts with disease.
Let’s pressure the NHL and the media to get Pat elected this year so that he and his family can attend the ceremony together, and share in the joy and reward that he deserves. While he is still with us.
Warren and his friends have a web page dedicated to the campaign. Go to www.patburns.ca first.
You can then also go to the facebook page that has been set up as well. Here is the link:http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=108020299222767&ref=ts
In only five days there have been over 10,000 supporters already.
Please join and support Pat in this honour.
I have no relation to Warren and his friends, but I have always liked Pat and have much respect for what he accomplished as an NHL coach, and I would be truly disappointed if he is not voted in while he’s alive. Please do your part.
