If you want a preview of today’s game here it is:
Florida 30-33-12 at Buffalo 42-23-10. Game time 7:00 P.M.
I have something more important that I want to say.
Former NHL coach Pat Burns, one of the classiest and most respected coaches in hockey is battling cancer for the third time in his life. Diagnosed with colon cancer in 2003-2004 and liver cancer in 2005 Mr. Burns took the chemotherapy route for treatment. With his latest diagnosis of lung cancer he has decided against treatment. His prognosis is not good.

Yesterday head coach Peter DeBoer referred to the Panthers ways this season as “Maddening”. I’m going to paraphrase here cause I’m too busy to go look for the exact words, but something to the effect of “We have some guys that give a solid effort every night and then we have a group of guys that constantly need to be pushed”.
Well Petey, it’s a little late in the season to make these and other remarks about the teams inconsistency. With seven games to go, this type of talking was due way back in the middle of the season. As usual for [...]

When you look at the Nashville Predators roster you probably say to yourself, how can this team be in the position that they are? Fifth in the Western Conference, ninth overall and they have the fourth best road record in the NHL. On top of it they are 7-2-1 in their last 10 games. No real susperstar, just a bunch of guys that have bought into the system of head coach Barry Trotz who is the only coach Nashville has known.
Led offensively by Partric Hornqvist and his 29 goals, Hornqvist has quietly made a name for himself after being drafted 230th [...]
Monday Morning Reading
Normally I like to post pieces from all the major sports, but with the hockey playoffs approaching I’m going to focus mainly on hockey. Here are some stories in the world of hockey last week you may have missed:
A wonderful tribute is being given to former NHL Head Coach Pat Burns as an arena will be named after him in Quebec. The Globe and Mail has the story. It’s too bad that Pat might not live to see it. We’re praying for you Pat.
Montreal forward Travis Moen had a gruesome incident last week as a skate acidently came across his face. [...]
Last weekend the state championships for hockey were played out in Coral Springs, Florida at Incredible Ice Arena where the Florida Panthers practice.
If you’ve never been to a high school game, I suggest that you go. It’s alot of fun and everyone’s into it. Including the parents in the stands!
In a round robin tournament the St.Thomas Aquinas Raiders teams won both divisions and came away champions. The St. Thomas Gold team beat Cypress Bay for their second championship in three years. Featuring Devin Loe who was drafted by the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League, the Raiders now [...]
In what has become a season long “Epitaph”, Ottawa’s Matt Carkner basically buried Florida’s Rostislav Olesz Saturday night enroute to a 3-2 victory, thus virtually all but knocking the Panthers out of the playoffs. As Olesz was skating down the wing with his head down, Carkner lowered the boom on the Panther forward knocking him directly on his arse. Olesz would go off to the dressing room, get stitched up, and ended up returning to action. No penalty was called, and basically no retaliation from Florida even with enforcer Steve MacIntyre in the lineup. Although Nick Tarnasky did follow up with [...]
