Canada Wins Gold In Overtime

On a goal by Sidney Crosby in overtime, Team Canada beat Team U.S.A by a score of 3-2 in one of the greatest hockey games of the modern era.  A spectacular display of skill, grit and charachter by both teams in a thriller for the ages.

Team Canada broke out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Jonathan Toews of the Chicago Blackhawks and Corey Perry of the Anaheim Ducks.  Team U.S.A. bounced back with goals by Ryan Kessler and Zach Parise, who scored with less than a minute left in regulation.

In overtime teams exchanges chances but both goaltenders were up to the challenge.  Team U.S.A. had a great chance when Joe Pavelski of the San Jose Sharks went in on Luongo and made a high hard shot which Luongo saved, and actually left a juicy rebound on, but the U.S. was changing lines and there was no second chance.

Team Canada scored a few moments later when Sid took a pass from Jarome Iginla of the Calgary Flames and went five hole past Sabres Goalie Ryan Miller.

Here’s TSN’s recap.

Ryan Miller was selected as the MVP of the tournament.  Well deserved.

Congratulations to both teams for treating us to a very exciting game.  Great for the NHL and for all the players that were able to participate.  It was a great tournament.  It’s too bad the U.S. had to lose, but someone had too.

Enjoy your night, and the closing ceremonies.

Thanks for reading.
