Canada Wins Gold In Overtime

AUTHOR: Frank Rekas | IN: Panthers | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

On a goal by Sidney Crosby in overtime, Team Canada beat Team U.S.A by a score of 3-2 in one of the greatest hockey games of the modern era.  A spectacular display of skill, grit and charachter by both teams in a thriller for the ages.
Team Canada broke out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Jonathan Toews of the Chicago Blackhawks and Corey Perry of the Anaheim Ducks.  Team U.S.A. bounced back with goals by Ryan Kessler and Zach Parise, who scored with less than a minute left in regulation.
In overtime teams exchanges chances but both goaltenders were up [...]

The Ultimate Matchup. Sunday Thoughts.

AUTHOR: Frank Rekas | IN: Panthers | COMMENTS: None Yet

The matchup that everyone wanted in Olympic hockey is upon us this afternoon.  USA vs. Canada.  Ryan Miller vs. Roberto Luongo.  The youth and speed of Team USA, vs. the experience of  Team Canada.  The U.S. is undefeated so far while Team Canada has one loss.  I predict and I really don’t like to do this, but I predict Team U.S.A. wins and for one reason only.
Team Canada has Roberto Luongo.  He has never won the big game.
I realize I could look pretty stupid here, but in about three hours we’ll find out.
Enjoy the game.
A few thoughts.
The treade deadline freeze [...]

Saturday Song Of The Week

AUTHOR: Frank Rekas | IN: Panthers | COMMENTS: None Yet

One of the best bands on earth that I never really started to appreciate until a couple years ago is Radiohead.   Formed in 1985 and from Abingdon, Oxfordshire, they are led by singer songwriter Thom Yorke.  Their first release was a single called “Creep”  in 1992, and they’ve had a loyal following since.
Here they are performing “Reckoner” live for a VH1 performance. Not sure of the year, but a great song anyway!
Enjoy.

Thanks for listening
Cheers

Florida Panthers-It’s Time to Get Serious!

AUTHOR: Frank Rekas | IN: Panthers | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

While the Olympic break was initially thought to cause some fans to go beserk while the NHL went on hiatus for two weeks, we have actually survived quite nicley in this time.  No one could argue that the games that we have seen in the Olympics have been nothing short of excellent!  Because of that, these two weeks have been quite bearable and actually a nice break from the nonsense that is called the Florida Panthers.
That being said, with the Olympic games coming to a close, the Panthers have begun practicing again and the anxiety over what’s going to happen to [...]

Florida Panthers: What’s Missing!

AUTHOR: Frank Rekas | IN: Panthers | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

With the Olympic break going into the final stretch for the week, and the trade deadline quickly approaching, I had some thoughts on what’s missing from this team besides the usual items that we all want.  Like a goal scorer, a  solid defenceman, a big name superstar etc.  In my opinion for whatever it’s worth, it’s really about something bigger, and something that has been missing from this franchise for quite some time.
Let me first tell you that I’m a bit old school when it comes to sports.  Meaning, I like the player that has a bit of an edge to [...]

USA Beats Team Canada!

AUTHOR: Frank Rekas | IN: Panthers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Was that an awesome game or what?  Some of the best hockey you’ve seen was displayed Sunday night as the U.S. beat Team Canada by a 5-3 score and make a real statement for themselves.  And for every hockey fan in the states.  I can’t believe hnow many people I know actually watched that game.  Many of whom aren’t hockey fans.
A tough work schedule for me today will not allow me to spend much time on this, so I thought I would link a few articles that give quite the recap.
From the National Post is one article that points a [...]
