Capital Punishment. Blow This UP!

I didn’t see it and am only able to read about it, but I’m certainly not surprised by it.  The Panthers went wearily into Washington last nite after an emotional victory the night before, where they saw four two goal leads dissapear,  and had their arse handed to them by the Capitals. 

Tell me loyal readers that there is one of you who actually felt that they were going to win last nght?

In case you didn’t know, the Panthers record against other Southeast Division foes is a dismal 1-6.  The one win against the sorry Carolina Hurricanes, a game in which there was no scoring from either team for three periods!  Blech!

Game tidbits:  Scott Clemmensen gets pulled within twelve minutes after giving up two goals and rookie goaltender Alexander Salak unfairly gets thrown into the fire in his first NHL game.  Salak was peppered for four more goals and this will do absolutely nothing for his confidence.  Nice going Pete.

The Panthers racked up 43 minutes of penalties.  Undisciplined hockey!  As a result the Panthers gave up three power play goals.  Nice going Pete.

Other than that, I got nothing to report.

This team as it stands needs some serious retooling.  A sport’s psychologist might be a good place to start.  I’m a bit tired of the inconsistencies and the cliches.  Here’s a few:

“We did some things well”.  “At least we got a point”.  “We need to play 60 minutes”.  “We know what we need to do”.

How about, the truth?  We don’t have the right players!  This team is awful and cannot compete at the NHL level on a nightly basis.  There is no toughness, no resiliency and no confidence.  Leadership?  No offence to Bryan McCabe but there is no leadership on this team. 

I also think that Pete DeBoer has made some really assinine decisions.

Well, I have some work to do, so I’m gonna step away from the keyboard and give myself a chance to put some thoughts together.  One thing I promise when I get back.  It ain’t gonna be pretty!
