Suspension for this?
This hit by Calgary Flames forward Curtis Glenncross on the Ranger’s Chris Drury drew a 3 game suspension for Glencross. Take a look at this hit, and then look at the hit by Mike Richards again on David Booth below.
Glenncross gets 3 games for his hit and Richards gets none. I am not here to debate whether the hits were clean, dirty etc. I am here to say that the NHL better take a real hard look at how they are determining what type of hit warrants a suspension and what type of hit does not.
You judge for yourself. I’m curious as to your thoughts.
Thanks for reading.
Cheers

what hit? Are you kidding me?
November 10th, 2009 at 1:38 amOf course I see your point, but these types of hits to the head are seriously injuring hockey players. Obviously Richards’ was more brutal than Glencross’s, but i think the NHL is (finally!) picking up on this trend, and is starting to discipline perpetrators.
Hopefully this is the season that the NHL will realize that abandoning the instigator penalty would help solve this headhunting problem that has blossomed recently.
November 10th, 2009 at 1:43 amLet these cheap shot artists get what they have coming.
First of all I would like to say that I want to see physical play. However, if you compare these 2 hits, if Glencross gets 3 games, then Richards should get 10!
While Drury doesn’t have the puck, an interference penalty about does it for Glen-x
November 10th, 2009 at 2:01 amHow can there be NO penelty called on that hit and the suits in ny give him 3 games. I repeat, NO PENELTY called on the ice
November 10th, 2009 at 3:26 amcheck out the most recent post practice interview with DeBoer. He said “it was good to see we scored 5 goals in washington”. Message to coach, you scored 4 goals not 5.
November 10th, 2009 at 3:28 amSee, now even he doesn’t know what’s going on!
November 10th, 2009 at 1:38 pmTell it like it is PDB and stop giving us the BS.
I thought that he would expect more out of his players, but seems to be falling into the trap.
Don’t be happy that you scored so many goals. Your defence continues to give up too many!
Frank, I want to see physical play too. It’s fucking HOCKEY after all.
November 10th, 2009 at 6:17 pmGlencross’ hit was misplaced. If he had lowered his shoulder into Drury, he’d have knocked him down, sent a message, and still have gotten a interference call. But the fact is his shoulder hit Drury’s jaw.
I dont’ know if that was his intent or not, but the league absolutely needs to cut down on the amount of hits being delivered to the fucking face.
Ted: The NHL needs to take a closer look at all these types of hits. After looking closer at the Glencross hit and viewing it a few times, it’s clear that Glen-x hit Drury’s jaw. While it most likely wasn’t his intent, that’s what happened.
I’m sure that Richards didn’t intend to hit Booth the way he hit him either. The worst part of the Booth hit was the way he hit the ice, which was a result of Richards hitting him. Listen to the sound Booth makes as his head hits the ice.
All I am saying is these suspensions/penalties need to somehow be more consistent.
