Roster Cuts, Panthers Win

by Panthers

The Florida Panthers trimmed their roster yesterday getting down to 27 players prior to their home game against the Dallas Stars which the Panthers won 4-1, therefore sweeping both games against Dallas in a home and home series.  Led by David Booth and Radek Dvorak each with a goal and an assist the Panthers will now prepare for their trip to Finland where they will open the NHL season Friday October 2nd and Saturday the 3rd against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Regarding the cuts there were some surprises.  Martin Skoula, Adam Keefe and Eric Himelfarb were released and could be invited back at a later date.  The following players however were told that they were not needed as of yet and sent down to the minors:

Going to Rochester: Peter Aston, Luke Beaverson, Chris Beckford-Tseu, David Brine, Brady Calla, Mike Caruso, Evgeny Dadonov, James DeLory, Matt Duffy, Keaton Ellerby, Jordan Henry, Jamie Johnson, Kenndal McArdle, Graham Mink, Victor Oreskovich, Tyler Plant, Andrew Sweetland, Clay Wilson and Mike York.

The message may have been delivered by Don Draper as head coach Peter DeBoer was preparing for last nights contest with the balance of the roster.

Surely Don would have said something short and sweet like, “Boys I am sorry (he doesn’t apologize) to inform you but you did not make the roster, go work on your game”.

Jason Garrison and Christian Backman are going to Finland at this point and the outcome of Dmitry Kulikov’s future is still to be determined.
