Post Game Wrap up From Finland

AUTHOR: Frank Rekas | IN: Panthers | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Florida Panthers won their final exhibition game of the preseason beating Jokerit 4-2.  The victory earned the Panthers a split on their European preseason tour.
Led by Cory Stillman’s two goals plus one each from Michael Frolik and Dennis Seidenberg, the Panthers ended the preseason on a positive note with a 5-4 record.  Jokerit which has a few former NHL players on their roster like Juha Lind, Jani Rita, in addition to a bunch of guys named Tommi, fell short in their effort to give the Panthers their second consecutive defeat.  Let it be known that the Panthers were playing without number [...]

Jokerit versus Florida

AUTHOR: Frank Rekas | IN: Panthers | COMMENTS: None Yet

         VS
Today the Florida Panthers will play their final exhibition game against Jokerit in Finland.  This will be the final tuneup before Friday’s season opener against the Chicago Blackhawks.  Hopefully the Panthers can come out on the positve side on this one for a few reasons.  Momentum going into the opener for one.  Nothing like riding the good feeling of a win to start the season.  Playing well, even in an exhibition game can be contageous.  The Panthers while coming close on Monday, need a victory.  Knowing how they played Monday, they will need to play with a little more [...]

Breaking News: Kulikov signed!

AUTHOR: Frank Rekas | IN: Panthers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Just learned this afternoon that number one pick Dmitry Kulikov has been signed by the Florida Panthers, thus ending the drama and speculation that he was headed back to juniors.  It will be interesting to see how long he stays with the Panthers, however apparently he has made a big enough impression on head coach Peter DeBoer that he appears to be willing to give him some more time with the big club.
Click on the link below for the full story from on-site reporter George Richards of the Miami Herald, who is in Finland covering the Panthers:

More of the Same!!

AUTHOR: Frank Rekas | IN: Panthers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Well somethings just don’t change.  The Florida Panthers lost in a shootout yesterday to a “club” team 3-2.  Scoring in regulation for Florida were Nathan Horton and Mike Duco (fighting for a roster spot).  In addition, goalie Scott Clemmensen turned away 27 shots.  Give them a break I suppose as they were playing on an international ice surface in unfamiliar territory.  However, let it be known that the last time that an NHL team lost to a “club” team during exhibition was in 1991 when the Quebec Nordiques lost to Moscow Dynamo.
In the shootout Panther chances were foiled on shots by Michael [...]

Today the Florida Panthers will play the first of two exhibition games in Finland before opening the season against the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday.  The game today will be against Tampere Tappara of the SM Liiga.  Game time is noon eastern.
Since I’ll be working, and will have absolutely no access to even trying to find this game, if anyone is able to get an update, please drop me a line in the comment section.

NHL Network Schedule (STINKS!)

AUTHOR: Frank Rekas | IN: Panthers | COMMENTS: None Yet

I am pissed off!  Not a good way to start a Monday morning that’s for sure.  I was surfing around last night looking at the usual hockey websites and blogs that I normally check out on a daily basis, and came across the NHL Networks TV schedule for the first two months of the season.
It appears that they are going to cut back on the Saturday night broadcasts and no longer give us in the United States the pleasure of watching an entire night of Hockey Night in Canada!  We will still get to see the HNIC pregame, but the typical [...]
